Home ownership is a source of identity for many.  Home ownership gives us a sense of pride and a sense of being a part of society.  But the truth is, you are not what you have.  Your home doesn’t make you and things come and go.  Life has ups and downs and many things are out of our control.  That being said, you made an investment in your home and if there is a way to save your home then why not?

In recent years, this country has witnessed the greatest increase of foreclosure since the founding of this country.  The infrastructure of our court systems had to be modified in order to deal with the influx of foreclosure filings.  Laws have been passed to keep homeowners in homes and banks and other financial institutions have put in place home saving options.  Even the courts have placed safeguards to keep the foreclosure process from moving too quickly to give the homeowner more protection.

Now for reality: many homeowners are not aware of the many options that are available to them to save their home.  This is where I come in.    For years, I have been helping homeowners save their home.  The US government has set aside billions of dollars to help homeowners avoid foreclosure.  This money that has been set aside is far from being exhausted.  In fact, even though these programs have been around for years, very little has been used.

In the event you received a complaint filed with the court stating that your property is being foreclosed upon you need to respond right away because the next 20 days after the complaint is served upon you is critical.   If you do not know how to interpret the document or know how to file an answer then you need to consider hiring an attorney.  An attorney will know how to answer the complaint.

At the same time as answering the complaint you can request a settlement conference.  A settlement conference will slow the process down quite a bit and will allow you the opportunity to discuss ways with the finance company that you can keep your house from being foreclosed.  These options include loan modification where both the principal and the interest rate can be reduced.  You should really take advantage of this chance to turn your situation around.  The most important thing that you can do when you are faced with foreclosure is to stay informed and stay active.

If you are not successful through the settlement conference there are other ways to save your home as well and a well-informed proactive attorney should discuss these options with you.  Keep in mind that there are programs available for those who can’t afford to pay their mortgage.  Investigate and see if these options can work for you.  I believe that the most important this to do is slow the process down to allow you time to get your finances in order and so that you can make informed decisions.  If you are facing the possibility of losing your home due to foreclosure, contact me today so that I can help you.
